Wizz Air Abu Dhabi launches new Sri Lankan route

Flights commence on 1 June and tickets are on sale now

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has launched a new route from the UAE capital to Mattala in Sri Lanka.

The new route, which marks the airline’s first destination in South Asia, will operate thrice-weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The outbound flight will depart Abu Dhabi at 1.25pm and arrive in Mattala at 8.05pm. The return flight will then take off from Mattala at 8.40pm and arrive in Abu Dhabi the following morning at 12.55am.

Speaking about the new route, DV Chanaka, the Sri Lankan State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development, said: “With Wizz Air’s low airfare rates, we also anticipate the Sri Lankan employee market in UAE to vastly benefit from travel between the two regions, which is expected to be extremely economical.

“Further, the tourism sector in Sri Lanka will vastly grow with short- and long-stay tourists arriving at the island while increasing connectivity between cities and other airlines around Wizz Air schedules.”

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s network currently comprises destinations, including Alexandria, Amman, Aqaba, Athens, Baku, Belgrade, Kutaisi, Manama, Muscat, Sarajevo, Sohag, Tel-Aviv, Tirana and Yerevan.

Mattala tickets are now on sale with fares starting from AED179.
