The move reinforces Emirates’ commitment to supporting South Korea’s inbound and outbound tourism and helping to alleviate the suppressed demand for international travel to increasingly popular East Asian destinations.

According to government data, South Korea welcomed only 967,000 foreign tourists in 2021 – a reflection of the impact of the pandemic and ongoing travel restrictions in the region. The numbers nearly tripled in 2022 and the latest figures, according to the Korea Tourism Organisation, show that the number of foreign visitors to South Korea from January to November 2023 reached 9.9 million – a 275.9% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

Increasingly, more tourists are flocking to the country’s capital – a metropolis fusing modern skyscrapers and pop culture with centuries-old temples and eclectic street markets. From here, there are thousands of islands along the coast to explore, most notable is Jeju, a firm favourite with hikers.
