Bhutan Airlines to operate route to Sharjah, UAE

The first direct flights between the Gulf and Bhutan will fly from January 2024

Bhutan Airlines, also known by its official title Tashi Air, has announced plans to start bi-weekly operations between Bhutan's Paro International Airport and Sharjah in the UAE from January 2024.

Though the schedule is yet to be confirmed, the Himalayan kingdom’s first private airline has applied to operate services from Paro to Sharjah with a stopover in Dhaka.

Bhutan Airlines entered into an interline ticketing agreement with Thai Airways in June 2023. This means that the reservation systems of both airlines are integrated for bilateral Interline E-Tickets (IET), allowing Thai Airways and Bhutan Airlines to issue tickets for each other's routes.

The airline's next step involves launching Inter Airline Through Check-in (IATCI) with Thai Airways, simplifying travel for passengers connecting to and from Bhutan.

Bhutan Airlines was founded in 2013 with domestic operations utilising an eight-seater Pilatus aircraft. It quickly expanded its services to international destinations, introducing the state-of-the-art Airbus 320 family of aircraft.
