Explora Journeys unveils suite design for first ship

The largest suite on board is the Owners Residence, measuring 280 square metres

Explora Journeys has unveiled the design of its Ocean Terrace Suites on its first ship, Explora I, which is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage in May 2023.

The lead-in category suites are 35 square metres, referred to by the luxury travel brand as “some of the largest in the industry”, and feature a private terrace measuring seven square metres with daybeds and a dining area.

In addition, all suites feature a walk-in wardrobe with a seated vanity area, a Dyson hairdryer, heated floors in the bathrooms, binoculars, wireless bed-side charging, a personalised minibar, espresso machine, kettle, and complimentary refillable water bottle.

Each of the 461 ocean-front suites, penthouses and residences feature a private terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The line said the design of the suites reflects its “philosophy of creating an ocean state of mind, thanks to light, colour, space, privacy and connection with the sea,” and blends “Swiss precision with modern European craftmanship”.

Chief executive Michael Ungerer praised the “long-held vision” of the line’s founders, the Aponte Vago family.

He said: “Marrying the family’s impeccable taste and innate understanding of luxury inspired by their personal travel style, the interiors of Explora I have been designed with their enduring dedication and incredible eye for detail, along with their vision for the future, weaving a thread of their passion through each touchpoint.

“We aspire to elevate the ocean experience and luxury travel to new heights, whilst being respectful to the ocean, environment and the destination and cultures we discover, to ensure we leave a positive legacy for generations to come.”

Explora I will visit 132 ports in 40 different countries in its first year of sailing, including two destinations, Kastellorizo in Greece and Saint Pierre in Martinique, that have “rarely” previously been visited by a cruise ship.
