Latest restrictions include megaphone bans and limited tour group numbers
Venice has banned tour guides from using megaphones and placed further restrictions on tour operators by limiting tour groups to 25 people.
The new rules on tour group size, which came into force this week, include exceptions for children under the age of two, school groups and educational trips.
Further to the group tour size limits, loudspeakers ‘which generate confusion and disturbances’ have also been banned.
The restrictions have been implemented on the Venetian islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello in a bid to counteract overtourism.

The new rules were expected to come into place in June 2024, but were postponed as many guides had already booked group tours of more than 25 people.
Operators who now break the rules could be fined as much as US$539.
City officials believe the restrictions will help improve the movement of groups through Venice’s historic hotspots, while making life better for those who live and work there.
