Skyscanner launches feature to help UAE and Saudi travellers save on flights

‘Drops’ notifies app users of best daily deals

Travel platform Skyscanner has introduced Drops, a new feature aimed at helping travellers in the UAE and Saudi find the best flight prices.

The in-app feature uses push notifications to provide relevant, timely and personalised flight 'drops'.

Users can access the feature daily to see a collection of flights from their nearest airport that have dropped in price by at least 20% compared to the previous seven days.

During Drops' pilot phase, in the UAE, Malé in the Maldives was the top 'dropped' destination, followed by Jeddah and Mumbai, with customers saving an average of AED1,228 (US$335) per trip to Malé.

In Saudi Arabia, Cairo, Istanbul and Baku were the most frequently dropped destinations, with travellers saving an average of SAR697 (US$185).

The UAE's Dubai and and Jordan's Amman also appeared as top dropped destinations for Saudi-based travellers, reflecting strong intra-Gulf travel demand.

Wednesday was the most popular day for ‘Drops’ in the UAE, with 38% of early bird deals published before 9am, while in Saudi Arabia, ‘Drops’ were released throughout the day, with Monday emerging as the most active day, highlighting the differences in user behaviour and travel planning patterns across both markets.

With Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE and Jeddah in Saudi being among the top-ranked destinations across multiple global markets, the region’s position as a leading tourism hub is reaffirmed.

“The all-new feature is an exciting and innovative addition to Skyscanner’s offerings, and this feature is just the next step to help inspire travellers to explore and book their trip with ease and confidence – no matter the budget,” said Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner.
