Roger Federer and Anne Hathaway star in new Switzerland Tourism campaign

The newly released film follows on from last year’s campaign starring Robert De Niro

Switzerland Tourism has released a short film starring its global brand ambassador and tennis champion Roger Federer alongside Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway.

The film is part of the tourism body’s latest marketing campaign and features the Grand Tour of Switzerland with its mountain passes, lakes and castles. However, the images are interrupted by an irritated Federer and Hathaway as both realise that the director has practically cut them both out of the film in favour of the landscapes, saying that nobody upstages the Grand Tour.

Speaking about his involvement in the project,  Federer said: “It was an absolute privilege to spend time with such a global superstar like Anne Hathaway.

“I was nervous about her high level of acting. But she gave me lots of tips and couldn’t have been nicer. She was very helpful and certainly patient with my acting skills.”

Switzerland Tourism director Martin Nydegger added: “With such a Hollywood superstar like Anne in our campaign, we are assured of worldwide attention for the Grand Tour of Switzerland.”

This isn’t the first time that Federer has ‘failed to star’ in a Switzerland Tourism film. Last year the entity released a similar campaign starring the tennis star, this time flanked by Academy Award winner Robert De Niro. In the film, which received more than 100 million views and became one of the ten most successful commercials of 2021, Federer’s dream of film stardom was ended by De Niro, who felt Switzerland lacked “drama”.

In addition to the film, Switzerland Tourism will use a variety of promotional materials  under the slogan ‘I need the road trip of a lifetime. I need Switzerland’.
