Qatar Airways adds 50 weekly flights to meet rising travel demand

Airline rolls out additional services to 11 destinations, including London and Madrid

Qatar Airways is bolstering its network with additional flights from Doha to Madrid in Spain and 10 more key destinations to meet increased travel demand.

The Spanish capital will see services increase from 14 to 17 per week, bringing jointly operated flights between Qatar Airways and flag-carrier Iberia from 21 to 24.

Elsewhere in Europe, Amsterdam adds four flights to reach 11, Larnaca in Cyprus rises from seven to 10 and London Heathrow flights rise from 49 per week to 56, the equivalent of eight each day.

Also starting in summer, the airline is resuming operations in Malta with four weekly flights from 2 July, and launching two weekly flights to Colombia and Venezuela. This will further expand the airline’s network to nearly 50 European destinations and 16 destinations in the Americas.

The introduction of more than 50 additional weekly flights to 11 destinations follows a record breaking 2024 for travel and tourism in Qatar, with Doha's Hamad International Airport serving 52.7 million passengers, up 15% from the previous year, and the country welcoming more than 5 million visitors, up 25%.

Additional flights to Syria, Sharjah and Tokyo
In the Middle East, Damascus in Syria will see weekly flights increase from three to 14. That follows Qatar Airways being the first major international airline to resume flights to the country on 7 January 2025.

Sharjah in the UAE sees the biggest rise in service, with Qatar Airways increasing frequency from 21 weekly flights to 35.

In Africa, Dar Es Salaam-Kilimanjaro flights increase from three to seven times a week, Maputo-Durban from five to seven, Entebbe from seven to 11 and Tunis from 10 to 12.

Completing the increases, Tokyo Narita in Japan will be served 14 times a week compared to the previous 11 flights.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, said the new flights reflect the airline’s commitment to worldwide connectivity.

“With the peak summer season approaching, we are pleased to fulfil the ever-increasing demand for air travel with accessible and convenient flight schedules,” he said.

During ITB Berlin in March 2025, Antinori told Reuters the airline had seen “above-market growth” in passenger numbers from April 2024 until January 2025, up 9% throughout its network, up 14% in Europe and up 12% in Germany.

As a result of such growth, the airline would “soon place a sizeable order for wide-body jets” to underpin its longer-term growth plans.

Qatar Airways won the ‘World’s Best Airline’ for an unprecedented eighth time at the 2024 World Airline Awards from Skytrax, and flies to more than 170 destinations worldwide through its Doha hub, which was also named World’s Best Airport in 2024 by Skytrax.
