One&Only Cape Town hotel reveals new look

The reimagined South African resort celebrates the country’s land, ocean and heritage

One&Only Cape Town has a new look.

Set in the heart of Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront overlooking the marina with panoramic views across to Table Mountain, One&Only Cape Town’s refurbishment spans the landscaping and all 133 rooms and suites, the lobby, Vista Bar & Lounge with new flooring, fittings and fixtures.

The resort’s refreshed aesthetic takes inspiration from Cape Town’s shapes, textures and colours, from the topography of Table Mountain, to the city’s mythology, and its thousands of indigenous plant species that occur nowhere else in the world.

The new guest room interiors have been crafted using thoughtful textures and organic materials accented by warm lighting and an earthy colour scheme. The Kente cloth-adorned entrance, using fabric inspired by the traditional Northern African mud cloth, creates an authentically African welcome.

Works by local artists decorate the suites. Johanny Twala has contributed intricate line drawings of Lions Head, Signal Hill and Table Mountain. Claude Chandler has created his artworks utilising the longitude and latitude of Table Mountain.

Limestone and African Ash tiles feature in the lobby, with statement tables and structural seating to complement the arrival experience. Both the reception and lounge spaces feature  a colour palette of calm neutrals, deep browns and warm earth tones, as well as traditional African patterns.

“Every element is carefully considered,” say the team, “from the curved headboard of the bed to the handmade ceramics in organic shapes representing the textures and colours of Table Mountain.”

By weaving the inspired design in collaboration with local artists and artisans, One&Only Cape Town has created a destination reflective of its setting.

Speaking about the redesign, One&Only Cape Town general manager Anne Scott said: “This is an incredibly exciting project for the One&Only Cape Town team and a testament to our confidence in the positive future direction of South African tourism.

“We’ve proudly incorporated local suppliers and artisans to create something magical, paying homage to African culture while retaining the innate One&Only ultra-luxury ethos.”
