Saudi's new hotel is named after a traditional Arabian sundial

Kerten Hospitality has inaugurated Dar Tantora The House Hotel in the Old Town of AlUla, Saudi Arabia.

The new hotel, situated 35km from AlUla International Airport, has been constructed with the same ancient materials and methods used in the area's original mud-brick buildings, offering guests an authentic immersion into AlUla's heritage.

CEO of Kerten Hospitality Marloes Knippenberg described the Dar Tantora The House Hotel as an invitation to delve into AlUla's rich history and culture.

Reflecting the hotel's respect for area's heritage, the name is inspired by the traditional Arabian sundial, a tantora, used as a timekeeping tool for the community in ancient times.

Furthermore, Dar Tantora The House Hotel is developing an art project in partnership with The Royal Commission of AlUla to involve local artists in its destinations. Elements such as furniture, artworks and room amenities were designed at Madrasat Addeera, AlUla's school for artisanal skills.

Key features of Dar Tantora include an infinity pool overlooking an oasis, a spa offering wellness treatments with local ingredients and culinary experiences led by chef Jaume Puigdengolas.

The 30-room hotel also offers a menu of cultural activities, including Saudi coffee- and bread-making sessions, ancient games and artisanal craft lessons conducted by local artisans.

In addition, the hotel provides tours led by local 'Rawis' guides, fostering "discovery, learning and memory-making".
