International airport to open on Italy’s Amalfi Coast

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport will operate from July 2024

Travellers from across the globe will no longer need to fly into Naples to access Italy’s picturesque Amalfi Coast.

From July 2024, it will be easier to reach the UNESCO-designated region as Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport is set to start serving international flights.

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport is situated 45km southeast of the city of Amalfi and 21km from Salerno which is currently used as another entry point to the famous coastline.

The airfield was originally built in 1926 and throughout the years has served as a military airport, a flying school and a private airport.

Closed since 2016, the facility will reopen this summer with an extended runway. Work is currently underway on a new passenger terminal, which will be completed by 2027.

According to authorities, the airport will continue to be developed until 2043, by which time the airport hopes to process some six million passengers a year.
