Emirates launches inflight iftar for fasting passengers

The Dubai-based airline is Ramadan-ready for Holy Month

During Ramadan, fasting passengers will receive iftar and suhour meals in bespoke boxes designed in collaboration with local artists at Mawaheb Art Studio. The boxes have been designed for passengers to keep and will be available on selected flight across all classes.

To ensure peace of mind for fasting passengers, Emirates uses a specific tool to accurately calculate when passengers should start and end their fast while in-flight, based on the times of the sunrise and sunset of the flight’s location.

The boxes will be served on flights to select destinations to and from the Gulf, during iftar and suhour, catering to all fasters including Umrah groups travelling to Jeddah and Medina for their pilgrimage.

The iftar menu will be refreshed on a weekly basis. Meals include salads and sandwiches accompanied by dates, laban, water, Arabic bread and other traditional iftar items, and will be served to complement the airline’s regular hot meal service.

For customers on the ground boarding during iftar and suhour, trays of dates and water will be available at gates for flights to several destinations. At the Emirates lounges in DXB passengers will be offered dates, coffee and Arabic sweets and will have access to dedicated prayer rooms and ablution facilities.

The airline has also fine-tuned its Ramadan programming, featuring special religious content in one special folder on its ICE in-flight entertainment system.

Emirates also provides Ramadan awareness training for its cabin crew and ground staff teams across its network so that teams are familiar with the specific practices and understand the cultural and religious significance of Ramadan.
