Dubai retains title of world’s cleanest city

Emirate also home to the third safest city in the world

Dubai has once again been crowned the world’s cleanest city.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the UAE city has claimed top spot, outperforming more than 47 cities worldwide, according to the Global Power City Index (GPCI).

The GPCI report, issued by the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan, evaluates and ranks major cities on their power to attract people, capital and businesses from around the world.

Cities are assessed on factors including environment, livability, cultural interaction, accessibility and economy.

Dubai was awarded a perfect score of 100% in cleanliness under the environment pillar.

This recognition comes after Dubai was named the third safest city for 2025 in the world, with Doha placing second and Abu Dhabi taking the top spot.

Dubai’s cleanliness record is the result of efforts spearheaded by Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with government agencies and private sector partners.

At the heart of this success lies the ambitious Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, with bold targets, including  a significant 18% reduction in waste production and a complete diversion of waste from landfills by 2041. The plan, which spans two decades, is set to revolutionise waste management practices in Dubai, promoting innovation in recycling and energy conversion.

Dubai Municipality manages a 365-day cleanliness and sustainability system across the city, supported by a fleet of 855 advanced vehicles and equipment. More than 3,200 municipality team members are dedicated to keeping the city clean and safe for residents and visitors alike.

His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “Leadership and excellence are built on teamwork, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the highest standards. Dubai’s faith in its teams has established a global benchmark for future cities, defined by innovation, sustainability and exceptional quality of life.”

This achievement aligns with Dubai's broader goals of sustainable development and its vision to become a model city of the future.
