Ocean-inspired Al Marjan Island site to open in 2026

The real estate developer behind The Unexpected Al Marjan Island Hotel & Residences in Ras Al Khaimah has shared its design vision for the property.

Almal Real Estate Development describes its flagship development as having ‘avant-garde design elements and exclusive amenities’ and ‘redefining upscale living’.

The company has appointed Design & ARchitecture bureau (DAR) as the lead design consultant for the project, which integrates the ocean into its aesthetic.

The hotel lobby

The lobby is intended to be a statement of the hotel’s design, with the entrance featuring a curved LED screen, presenting a rolling visual welcome. It will be complemented by a ‘hanging feature’ that is said to ‘encapsulate the essence of The Unexpected’.

Lighting design will see the hotel go from day to night with LED archways and a backlit roof canopy. Placement of vegetation and terrain elements will assist in reducing external noise.

Surrounded by Mediterranean flora, the connection to the surrounding environment will be part of the design. When it comes to amenities, The Unexpected will feature an infinity rooftop pool, beach club, spa and wellness centre, and five restaurants.

One-bedroom suite

‘Angel by day, Devil by night’ is the design approach in the rooms, which transition from light, airy tones in the living areas and balconies to darker, deeper hues in the bathrooms and kitchens.

Every room will have a maxi-bar, while some rooms will feature a ceiling mirror and glass shower that provide privacy and visual appeal.

Sixty-four of the rooms will have private Jacuzzis and bathtubs on the balconies with views of the Gulf.

The Unexpected Al Marjan Hotel and Residence is expected to open in 2026.
