Boutique hotel group Uga opens 6th resort in Sri Lanka

Six-suite property is set in central tea trails region

Boutique Sri Lankan hotel group Uga has opened its sixth property, Uga Halloowella, in Hatton, Sri Lanka.

Positioned on a hilltop within a 252-acre tea estate in the country’s historic central tea trails region, Uga Halloowella has six luxury suites.

“This launch marks the start of what is set to be one of Uga’s most exciting and ambitious years to date, with April seeing the opening of a seventh property, Uga Prāva in Tangalle, located on one of the country’s most beautiful beaches," said Uga owner and Managing Director Priyanjith Weerasooria.

Located 146km from Colombo, the property is accessible via helicopter or by scenic drive and is on the doorstep of some of the region’s must-visit attractions, including the Pekoe Trail.

Steeped in history and heritage, the property has been restored to its former glory by Uga alongside Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte.

“This masterfully restored heritage property – surrounded on all fronts by astonishing natural beauty – makes for a truly memorable Sri Lankan adventure," added Weerasooria.

Its six guest suites span three categories: Planter’s, Pekoe and Lane. Each of them reflect the property’s colonial history while featuring modern amenities.

Modern amenities

There’s a restaurant serving the flavours of Hatton and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Sri Lankan cooking masterclasses and garden barbecues are also available.

Uga Halloowella also offers guests a range of experiences, including a ‘Dawn Glide’ sunrise kayaking excursion on the waters of Castlereagh Reservoir.
