Bahrain moves to yellow alert to curb...

The move is a precautionary measure, according to the country’s National Medical Taskforce

In order to curb the spread of the latest Omicron Covid-19 variant, Bahrain has announced that it will move to “yellow alert level” from Sunday 19 December 2021 to Monday 31 January 2022.

Bahrain’s traffic light system dictates that yellow alert level is reached when the rolling average of positive Covid-19 cases in intensive care is between 51 and 100 cases for seven days.

The National Medical Taskforce said the step is precautionary, since the Omicron variant has not spread in the kingdom and that the decision remains subject to review.

The Taskforce also stressed the importance of receiving booster shots on time. Qualifying individuals have been urged to visit health centres for their booster shots without having to make an appointment.

Bahrain’s yellow alert level allows essential services and retailers – including supermarkets, private health clinics, petrol stations, banks, factories, telecom operators and pharmacies – to remain open.

All individuals, vaccinated and non-vaccinated, will be permitted to attend education and training institutes, hold private events at home with up to 30 people and visit standalone government centres. However, only vaccinated green shield holders, those recovered from Covid-19, and children under the age of 12 years accompanied by a vaccinated person will be able to visit shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, indoor gyms, sport halls, swimming pools, barber shops, salons and spas.

Cinemas, playgrounds, conference centres and sporting events will all be capped at 50% capacity.
