Move aims to boost inbound tourism
From July 2023, the maximum age to obtain Australia’s working holiday visa for British passport holders is being raised by five years to 35.
Tourism Australia estimates the change opens the door for a potential 16 million Britons aged 18 to 35 currently based both in the UK and expat communities around the world, including the UAE.
Australia’s wide variety of available jobs will allow professionals from multiple fields to find employment.
Research of 2,000 UK adults found that the weather (30%), lifestyle (27%) and new experiences (23%) were among the top reasons Brits choose to live and work abroad. A more relaxed pace of life (20%), experiencing new cultures (20%) and a fresh start (19%) also made the list.
Further changes to the working holiday visa are expected in 2024, when British citizens will be able to apply to live and work in Australia for up to three years – up from two years – without any specified work requirements.
