The Turkish capital’s historic hotel will be renovated and rebranded as Fairmont
Hospitality giant Accor has added Istanbul’s landmark heritage hotel The Grand Tarabya to its portfolio.
The historic hotel, which opened in 1966 and was restored in 2013, will be Accor’s 38th property in the Turkish capital, and will be rebranded as Fairmont upon completion of an extensive renovation.
The property features 248 rooms and suites, 29 residences, seven food and drink outlets, and a wellness centre, and is located in the upscale Tarabya district along the Bosphorus.
Ahmet Bayraktar, Chairman of Bayraktarlar Holding, which includes tourism and real estate in its portfolio of companies, said the hotel’s setting – on the waterfront and close to the city’s cultural and historic attractions – aligns with the Fairmont brand’s ethos and that the property would thrive under the new direction.

“The Grand Tarabya has an esteemed legacy, which we are honoured to carry forward,” said Omer Acar, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Raffles Hotels & Resorts.
“With the proposed transformation of this landmark property, The Grand Tarabya will be a perfect addition to our portfolio, joining iconic Fairmont hotels such as The Plaza in New York and The Savoy in London.
“Together with our partners at Bayraktarlar Group, our vision is to preserve the property’s rich history and heritage while enhancing its appeal for today’s luxury travellers.”
