3-day weekend for Oman and Kuwait as public holiday announced

Employees in both countries will have three days off from Thursday 30 January

Omani and Kuwaiti residents will get to enjoy a long weekend for Isra Wal Miraj, it has been announced.

Everyone working in both the public and private sectors will have a public holiday on Thursday, 30 January 2025, according to statements from the respective labour ministries.

Isra Wal Miraj, also known as the Night Journey, is a key event that commemorates Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) journey and ascension.

With the work week in Oman and Kuwait running from Sunday to Thursday, the day’s leave allows workers across the countries time off to enjoy a three-day break, from Thursday 30 January to Saturday 1 February.

This creates an opportunity for travel advisors to book last-minute holidays for clients based in these countries.

Destinations within four hours of both countries proving popular at this time of year include fellow GCC countries for dynamic city breaks in mild climates; Sri Lanka for affordable beach holidays, and Istanbul for foodies, thanks to the December 2024 release of Türkiye's Michelin Guide. Eight of the 14 Michelin-starred restaurants in the country are located within the Turkish capital and getting a table is far easier during winter, outside of peak tourist season.
