“Saudi covers everything a traveller looks for,” says Matador’s Global Sales Director
Specialising in creating social media content for a younger audience (aged 25 to 40), Matador is an independent digital travel platform commissioned to shoot videos in Saudi Arabia to showcase the rising destination that’s proving popular with travellers seeking new experiences.
In the latest episode of The Saudi Tourism Authority Podcast, produced by Connecting Travel, Federico Giusiano, Global Sales Director of Matador, tells Sarah Hedley Hymers: “There's so many things to do and see in Saudi – the culture, gastronomy, architecture. Saudi covers everything a traveller looks for.”
Giusiano highlights the capital city Riyadh and the ancient town Diriyah, considered the birthplace of Saudi Arabia, as well as Jeddah, the Red Sea resorts, and AlUla with “fantastic nature, wellness, geology and architecture”.

Giusiano explains that Matador’s audience look for authentic experiences and want to be pioneers when it comes to new destinations. This is why Saudi has growing appeal, especially on social media, but Matador is also embracing “small learnings” in its approach to content that travel professionals can gain insights from.
From which media platforms perform best to the importance of featuring real people rather than models, Giusiano explains how Matador is tweaking its content to resonate with the audience and also challenge their perceptions of Saudi.
“I love the people in Saudi. I think they're so friendly and so open,” he says.
