Great Britain steals the spotlight at 2025's TV and film awards

Take a 'set-jetter' tour of 2025's top movie locations in England, Scotland and Wales

From the Golden Globes to the Academy Awards, Britain was the star of the show in 2025's television and film awards. The cliffs of East Sussex, cobbled streets of Edinburgh and flower fields of Norfolk all played a central role in the year's magical cinema moments.

Set-jetters or simply curious travellers keen to explore new destinations should check out this list of blockbuster British locations.

England

East Sussex
This awards season, Sussex cast its spell over Hollywood with the Wizard of Oz spin-off, Wicked: Part One. The county’s Seven Sisters Country Park, part of the Sussex Heritage Coast, stars as Glinda makes her grand entrance at Shiz University. She drifts along the Cuckmere River in a pink sailboat, framed by the park’s white chalk cliffs with sweeping views of the English Channel. For visitors, a walk along the cliff-top trails offers a cinematic perspective of the coastline, while a paddle along the Cuckmere River recreates Glinda’s arrival.

Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire also appears in Wicked: Part One with the village of Ivinghoe, near Luton, transformed into Munchkinland, complete with the iconic Yellow Brick Road.

A walk up Ivinghoe Beacon, a part of the Chiltern Hills, offers panoramic views and marks the start of the Ridgeway National Trail. Visitors can also head to Waddesdon Manor, a French Renaissance-style château a short drive from Ivinghoe, whose art collection includes works by Thomas Gainsborough and Joshua Reynolds. Waddesdon Manor's gardens have featured in The Crown, Queen Charlotte, and Cinderella.

Norfolk
Norfolk’s colourful tulip fields played a starring role in Wicked’s depiction of Munchkinland, with Belmont Nurseries growing nine million flowers specifically for the film. Each spring, visitors can stroll through the fields and explore the 20-acre nursery, which has more than 100 different tulip varieties.

Norfolk’s dramatic landscapes include the sweeping beaches and dunes of the Deep History Coast and the winding waterways of the Norfolk Broads. Visitors can hire a boat and sail through these waterways, Britain’s largest protected wetland area, to see the sights from a different perspective.

The historic city of Norwich includes the 11th-century castle, complete with a Roman hoard and remains of a temple.

Bristol
Animated favourite and British institution Wallace and Gromit is made in Bristol by Aardman Animations and fans of the latest adventure Vengeance Most Fowl can follow the Gromit Unleashed 3 Trail this summer, where sculptures of the iconic dog will pop up across the city.

A Grand Way Out, the first Wallace and Gromit escape room, offers a chance to step inside their universe. Animation fans can also head to We The Curious, where hands-on exhibits celebrate the magic of stop-motion filmmaking.

Bristol boasts a rich film and TV heritage, with its streets and landmarks starring in productions like Sherlock and His Dark Materials.

Lancashire
Aardman Animations also shone a new spotlight on Lancashire, with the county’s industrial heritage and rolling countryside providing the backdrop for Vengeance Most Fowl.

Preston, the hometown of Wallace’s creator, Nick Park, makes a fitting return, with nods to its historic mills and railway heritage woven into the film’s design. Wallace’s love of cheese makes Lancashire a fitting setting with the Ribble Valley home to some of the country’s finest cheesemakers and where visitors can embark on a Lancashire Cheese Trail.

For those looking for a less cheese-based dining experience, Moor Hall in Aughton is Lancashire’s first three-starred Michelin restaurant and serves a menu celebrating the best of the region’s produce.

London

Follow anti-hero Donny’s pub and club crawl through England’s capital, stopping at the Army and Navy pub in Stoke Newington, where Donny’s Edinburgh gigs were filmed, or visit the Comedy Store in Leicester Square where Donny hits the stage in the final episode.

The Regent’s Canal in North London, which also features in a pivotal scene in the show, is a good place for a Sunday stroll and to check out Columbia Road Flower Market and its street food stalls

Edinburgh
Edinburgh stars in Baby Reindeer too, with the Scottish capital’s buzzing cultural scene providing the backdrop for Donny’s ill-fated gig at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, a month-long celebration of comedy and performance held each year. The Hoppy Pub in Meadowbank steps into the spotlight as the stand-in for the venue of Donny’s disastrous comedy performance.

Visitors can climb to the summit of extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat to get amazing views across Edinburgh and beyond. The city has a vibrant nightlife and comedy scene, from the legendary Stand Comedy Club to countless bars and venues that keep the Fringe spirit alive year-round.

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Wrexham
This Unesco World Heritage Site provides the setting for one of Wallace and Gromit’s daring escapades in Vengeance Most Fowl. For visitors inspired to follow in their footsteps, a canoe trip across the aqueduct offers the chance to soak in the views, while the surrounding Dee Valley’s rolling hills and walking trails are also popular. The Llangollen Railway, a heritage steam train, follows the River Dee.

Football fans will know Welcome to Wrexham, the hit documentary series following the fortunes of Wrexham AFC under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney which has thrust the city into the global spotlight.
